Overview
Meet the Independence Township Board of Trustees:

Larry Rosso
Presently serving his third term as a
Township Board Trustee, Larry Rosso was first elected in 1996.
Additionally, Mr. Rosso has served as Board liaison to the
Planning Commission since 2004. Prior to the Planning
Commission, Mr. Rosso served on the Zoning Board of Appeals from
2000-2004. He is a member of the North Oakland Headwaters’
Conservancy and also a member of the Clarkston Area Optimist
Club
Mr. Rosso has been a lifelong educator. He
has been an adjunct instructor in Political Science at Oakland
Community College since 2005. He served as a legislative
consultant to the National Board for Professional Teaching
Standards from 1995 – 2004. The largest portion of Mr. Rosso’s
professional career was as a teacher of American Government,
History and Law for 27 years at Clarkston High School.
A resident of Independence Township since
1967, Mr. Rosso is married to Mary and has a son, Steven.

Neil Wallace Neil previously
served as a Township Board Trustee from 1996 to 2000. He also
served on the Township Planning Commission for two terms, five
years as its Chair. Neil has worked on Independence Township
millage campaigns for the ambulance service, fire and safety
paths, as well as serving on the 20/20 Vision Committee.
He has donated his time as an attorney to several local
organizations including the Clarkston Community Historical
Society and Independence Groundwater Leadership Team. He
has been active for many years in the Republican Party,
including several leadership positions. Neil is a former
trustee and director of the Oakland County Local Development
Company and former Chairman of Boost Oakland Business.
Neil has been a resident of Independence Township since 1976,
where his two daughters, Sarah and Lindsey were also raised.
He has been a practicing attorney for 31 years. He earned
his B.B.A. in Business management from Western Michigan
University, did graduate work in real estate at Oakland
University and earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the
University of Detroit, School of Law .
Neil was a founder Citizens for Orderly Growth and was a member
of the Core Group that directed its activities since its
inception in 1987. He is also a commercial real estate
broker.

David Lohmeier David and his
wife, Beth, are long time residents of the community where they
are raising their two daughters, Olivia and Emma. They attend
Saint Daniel’s Church.
Dave has been drawn to a variety community service, including
serving as a member and Chairman of the Township Planning
Commission, Chairman Township Master Planning Vision 20/20
commercial task force, a member of Township Safety Path
Committee, and Chairman Independence Township Parks and
Recreation Advisory Committee. David has also served on the
Clinton Valley Council Boy Scouts of America Executive Board
member, and has been a member of Citizens for Orderly Growth.
Dave enjoys teaching through A World In Motion (AWIM) Elementary
level in-school Engineering program whenever he can.
Dave earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Oakland
University MBA fromand a University of Detroit Mercy. He has
been employed by General Motors for twenty years and currently
serves as Manager of Strategic Initiatives for OnStar

Mark Petterson Mark is
serving his first term as Trustee. He has been a resident
of Independence Township since 1963 and is a 1982 graduate of
Clarkston High School. Mark and his wife, Karen have been
married 22 years, and have a son, Andrew. He has worked
for F. Allied Construction for 23 years as an Operating
Engineer. Mark has won many State and County awards for
his work at Allied.
Mark is newly appointed to the Lake Board Committee of
Clarkston Mill Pond, Van Norman and Lake Oakland. He is a
member of the North Oakland Republican Party and is also a
member of Lost Lake Woods Club in Alcona County.
