Building Permit Requirements
Residential
- Application
- Copy of Builders’ License and Driver’s License
- Two (2) Sets of Construction Plans
Plans must be sealed if construction is over 3500 sq. ft.
- Michigan Energy Worksheet
- Plot Plan
Must be drawn to scale and include:
- Drainage Plan
- Elevations of Existing and Proposed Grades.
- Location of Septic & Well
- Setbacks
- Any existing buildings on site
- Copy of Well and/or Septic Permits from Oakland County
(Septic System must be 100’ from a body of water)
-or-
Water and/or Sewer Tap from Department of Public Works
- Driveway Permit from Road Commission at Oakland County
Driveway permit not required on private roads
- Soil Erosion permit from Oakland County
- Application Fee (see Fee Schedule)
Process to issue a Building Permit request takes approximately 3 weeks.
Applicant will be called when permit is ready to be issued.
Building permit does not include Electrical, Plumbing, Heating, Fire
Place or Air conditioning permit. These are separate permits issued after
permit to build.
Commercial and Multiple
- Application to be completed and signed – if no pre-construction
meeting is required, submit the following:
- Five (5) Sets of Sealed Construction Plans
- Site Plan
Must be drawn to scale and include:
- Drainage Plan
- Elevations of Existing and Proposed Grades
- Location of Septic & Well
- Any existing building on site
- Oakland County Driveway Permit/Michigan Department of Transportation
- Sewer/Water Permit (or copy of Application) or Septic/Well Permit
- Oakland County Soil Erosion Permit
- Plan Review Fee (see Fee Schedule)
Process to issue a Commercial Building Permit request takes approximately
3-4 weeks. Applicant will be called when permit is ready to be issued.
- All Electrical, Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning permits are
separate.
- Must follow Fire Department recommendation in accordance with Fire
Codes.
- Must adhere to Barrier Free Design Codes.
